The Explorer 1016 was produced for 26 years in a row and for good reason: this iconic tool watch is pretty close to perfect. The 1016 is extremely versatile and looks both rugged with athletic-wear and also wears handsomely with a suit. And despite what some people might say 36mm is really not that small of a diameter, especially with the thin Oyster case. The proportions are just right. Last but not least, the numerals from the Explorer are a show-stopper; they have been imitated many times but no other dial with the 3-6-9 disposition has managed to create the perfect balance like the 1016. What we Love and What You Should Know

The dial really makes or breaks an Explorer and this one is a prime example of a GREAT dial. The patina is uniform between the hands and the numerals (often the lume on one or the other does not match). There is no doubt that this Explo was polished before; honestly this is to be expected with a 40-year watch. Yet the lugs are still there and this 36mm wears amazingly on the wrist with its later but very tight bracelet. This is not a perfect example, but a damn good one.
