1950s Omega Seamaster With Very Rare Dial

Why This Watch Matters

This Omega Seamaster bears a very striking resemblance to the Omega Ranchero, but trust us, this is a Seamaster with a rarely seen “Explorer” style dial. You’d definitely be forgiven for mistaking it for one at first glance, but the dauphine hands and the signature are a definite sign this isn’t a Ranchero.

The Full Story

There is, surprisingly, given the amount of attention that vintage Seamasters have garnered over the years, very little known about Explorer-dial Seamasters. There are only two references known to enthusiasts so far: this one, reference 2937-3 with sub-seconds, and the reference CK2996, with center seconds. They were, and are, great designs and very versatile; they dress up or down with ease, thanks to the classic case dimensions and proportions, and the combination of an Explorer dial with dauphine hands. Inside is one of the greatest simple hand-wound movements of all time: Omega caliber 267, one of the famous 30mm family of Omega calibers, which are renowned for their extremely high quality and the great care taken by Omega in their manufacture and design. Ours shows only some light surface staining to the otherwise very sound gilt-finished movement. Overall a great example of a quite rare and very collectible Seamaster reference.

The Fine Print

Reference: 2937-3
Year: 1950s
Movement No: 15752XXX

Sapphire Crystal: No
Lume: Yes, tritium
Caliber: Manual wound movement caliber 267
Bracelet/Strap: Omega Beads of Rice bracelet
Lug Width: 19mm

What we Love and What You Should Know

The patina of the dial and the hands is absolutely perfect. The case has some scratches, including on the bottom right lug, but still looks and feels great. The Omega bracelet is probably not original as its end links do not fit the case tightly (we will include a HODINKEE strap to make up for that). Overall presentation is very handsome.
